Settled in the early 1800's on the banks of the North Fork of the Forked Deer River, the Greater Gibson County area has grown to include the towns of Bradford, Dyer, Gibson, Kenton, Medina, Rutherford, Trenton and Yorkville.

Climate

The prevailing climate is temperate, with pronounced seasonal variations in both temperature and precipitation. The average temperature is 62.1; average precipitation is 49.73; snowfall is variable from year to year. Most winters have little or none, while other winters can have a seasonal snowfall of up to 17 inches. The normal frost free period is from March 20 to November 12.

Gibson County is located in the central part of West Tennessee and covers a land area of 607 square miles containing 388,480 acres of land with 1,200 miles of state and county roads.

Education

Three special school districts serve the 5,500 students in the Greater Gibson County area. These schools offer college preparatory classes as well as vocational training - not to mention the numerous athletic and extracurricular opportunities available.

Additionally, a two-year community college is available in Trenton that has both day and evening classes. The Greater Gibson County area is also within a commutable distance of six four-year colleges or universities that offer both graduate and undergraduate courses.
